Abstract

Cadmium and lead contents of grains of Dutch cereals were compared with values for imported grains. Average Cd contents of Dutch wheat, barley and rye grains were 0.067, 0.026 and 0.027 mg/kg, respectively. Corresponding values for Pb were 0.08, 0.14 and 0.09 mg/kg. Values for imported cereals were similar. Cd content of 3 samples and Pb content of 2 samples of Dutch wheat exceeded the Dutch legal limits of Cd and Pb in cereal grains (0.15 and 0.5 mg/kg, respectively).
