Abstract

The specificity of K adsorption on illite with respect to divalent cations can be explained by accepting the existence of three types of exchange sites, each of which shows a normal exchange process which may be described with the Gapon exchange equation. The K exchange on illite can be described mathematically as the sum of these three processes. Proof of the validity of the mathematical expression is presented.
